Our canoeing
trip on the Qu'appelle River starts during spring flood stage in June and July. Clients will have a chance
to see moose, bear, cougar, deer, beaver, mink, weasel, otter,
turtles, snakes and all descriptions of migrating waterfowl including
eagles, osprey, belted kingfishers, herons, cranes, pelicans, tundra
and mute swans.
We will provide
canoes, paddles, PFD's and a safety bag containing rope, bailer, and
whistle for emergencies. We will transport clients to the river and
pick them up downstream at Tantallon. There are three lengths of trips
at 70 km, 30 km (full day) and 10 kms for a 1/2
day trip. There are several rapids to paddle through and a
levee that must be portaged around due to a dangerous undertow. This
river flows at 6-7 km/hr in the flat water sections. The 1/2 day trip
(10 km) stretch has no rapids. It is a perfect route for families
in the summer months when the water has warmed up enough for swimming.
There are walleye, catfish and northern pike in the deep pools for
fishermen.
Children and
non-swimmers will not be permitted during the spring flood stage due
to the cold water and strong currents. Since we
are environmentally minded, no glasses nor cans will be allowed on
the trips. We wish you to take only photographs and to leave
only footprints for best memories.
